The Deacons meet to launch the process and form Pulpit Committee and Search Team.

  • Pray that the needs of Calvary Assembly’s Campuses will come to the surface as the Pulpit Committee/Search Team seeks God's will about our next lead pastor and launches the process.
  • Commit as a church to special times of prayer and fasting where all diligently seek the Lord's wisdom and guidance to reveal the right pastor for our congregations.
Ephesians 1:22-23, "And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every day."

The Pulpit Committee actively searches for whom God is calling to Calvary Assembly.

  • Pray that the pulpit search team will have clarity as to the characteristics, goals and key criteria to include in a Lead Pastor profile. This is the profile of the person we are looking for in a lead pastor, along with associated job responsibilities. In it, we highlight character qualities, personality traits, theological convictions, roles and expectations.
  • Pray that the pulpit search team would not settle for too little or aim too high, making the job description/profile unreasonable or unattainable or too broad.
1 Timothy 3:1-2, "The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. Therefore an overseer must be above reproach . . ."

The Pulpit Committee/Search Team, with input from District Council and all of our church, vet and assess candidates.

  • Pray that all involved with the process would hear God's voice with clarity and feel peace as they discern whom they should interview.
  • Pray that as they read candidate profiles, listen to sermon samples and talk with candidates, they would discern the church's needs and God’s direction.
John 10:14 "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and they know me."

Select candidates go through multiple rounds of interviews to narrow the pool.

  • Pray that the Pulpit Search Team will know the right questions to ask as they represent Calvary Assembly’s Campuses through the interview process.
  • Pray that they would have clarity and discernment as they interview candidates, eliminate candidates and move forward with candidates throughout the interview process.
Matthew 5:16 "In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."

The Board of Deacons uses all of the information and feedback collected at each step to prayerfully select the final candidate for vote by Calvary Assembly.

  • Pray that the candidate, spouse and family would feel the same peace and excitement that Calvary Assembly’s Campuses feel about the candidate.
  • Pray that the candidate and family will have clarity during their visits with Calvary and know whether or not this is the next step in ministry to which God has called them.
  • Pray for the final candidate that passes through the vetting process, and who will be presented to the church membership for a final vote of affirmation.
  • Pray for peace for the existing staff that God's will is present and working in all of their lives.
Philippians 4:7, "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

The Board of Deacons introduce the new Lead Pastor to Calvary Assembly.

  • Pray that the entire congregation would feel a sense of peace as the pastor is introduced to Calvary Assembly.
  • Pray that there is unity among the Deacons, staff and congregation.
  • Pray that the new pastor and family has a smooth transition to Calvary Assembly and its communities.
Colossians 3:14, "Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which ties everything together in unity." 1 Corinthians 1:10, "I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought."

While it is logistically impossible for the church membership to thoroughly vet candidates, be encouraged! There are men and women from all walks of life in leadership positions at this church. You’ve already placed your trust in them to lead the church in various capacities, and that’s what they’ve been doing by faithfully and prayerfully implementing this search process.

Nevertheless, the congregation’s role is vital. While it is logistically impossible for you to duplicate the extensive vetting process, your vote matters a great deal. Constitutionally, we need a two-thirds membership vote to accept the candidate.

Remember, your vote counts, both as a vote of support for the people and process behind the search, and as a vote of confidence in the selected candidate. Calvary Assembly can’t and won’t move forward without the membership’s support.

Above all, pray for our Pulpit Committee and Staff, that they may discern the Lord’s will for the Lead Pastor position at Calvary Assembly and be at peace with this person's leadership. Pray also for our congregation, that we all might prepare our hearts and minds to move into this new era with joy and zeal for what Jesus Christ has done for us and will do through us. To God be the glory!
